Oct 03, 2022 11:56AM ● By Steve Corbin

Situated in the The Village ShopsPriscilla's of Sanibel features a variety of unique, handmade gifts made by women, for all ages from infants to adults. Featuring cool clothing ideas, novel jewelry pieces, home decor, greeting cards including boxed cards ready for anything, journals, and stationery, as well as beauty aids and self-care products, Priscilla’s has something fanciful for all ages, every occasion and gift-giving desire. Many of the products at Priscilla’s support charities and nonprofits, with portions of proceeds going toward organizations for marginalized voices and women advocacy groups.

The store is named after Priscilla Murphy, who traveled to Sanibel from Michigan in the 1940s and opened up the first real estate office on the island in the 1950s. “Priscilla was my inspiration and muse” says owner Maari Simcox. “She is one of the many trailblazing women of Sanibel from past and present.”

Simcox lives on Sanibel with her husband, Chas, her children, and dogs, having relocated to the island from Minnesota during the 2020 Covid pandemic. “After visiting here my whole life, we decided to take a leap of faith and start a new adventure on Sanibel Island,” she says. With a background in advertising/marketing, journalism, and interior design, as well as charity work in women advocacy groups, Simcox feels that she has found her calling by opening Priscilla’s of Sanibel. “I am an old soul, inspired by the many women before us, and with us, who have worked so hard so that we can all enjoy this beautiful place on earth. I am honored and humbled to be a part of this wonderful community and look forward to meeting you soon and hearing your story.”
