Dog Gone Good Day!

Feb 29, 2024 08:00AM ● By Ann Marie O’Phelan

Cape Coral Animal Shelter’s annual pet and family-friendly event, Walk, Wiggle, Wag & Run, is back again! And it’s all for a good cause—to raise vital funds needed to help the shelter’s homeless and neglected dogs at the shelter get the care they need and find loving, forever homes.

Along with a 5K timed walk/run, this community event offers food trucks, vendors, pet contests, and giveaways, including an event t-shirt. The event takes place at the shelter on Saturday, March 23. The 5k starts at 8 am, the awards start at 8:30 am, and the 1-mile walk starts at 10 am, followed by a pet talent and costume contest at 11 am. Categories include Best Costume, Best Kisser, Best Trick, and Best Rescue Dog. Leashed dogs are welcome but must not have retractable leashes. Runners and walkers should bring water bottles, wear sun protection, such as sunscreen and a hat, wear comfortable clothing and running shoes. Waistbelts that can hold cell phones, IDs, and more are something to consider.

“We went last year and had a great time!” says Marcie Lund of Cape Coral, who brought along her three young children. Her children especially enjoyed the pet talent and costume contest. Plus, the food trucks were delicious.

Those who love yoga might enjoy the shelter’s slow-paced “Yoga for the Shelter,” which takes place every Saturday from 8 to 9 am at the Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village, 5951 Silver King Blvd., Cape Coral. The class focuses on balance, flexibility, motion, and releasing tension. The class is designed to relax the body and mind. Bring yoga mat, water, towel, and any props you enjoy, such as blocks and straps. $10 per class per participant, and 50% of the proceeds go to help the shelter. Register and pay online or show up and pay with cash.
